Art Book
Read below to learn about the art book we talked about during Back to School Night. This will be one of the mediums we will use to create different works of art related to our subject areas.
I've also included a printable version at the bottom of this page.

What is the “Art Book”?
It is a visual and artistic representation of different lessons, themes, ideas, or vocabulary words that are a part of the 5th grade curriculum.
It is made out of a “used book”
An example of an “Art Book” assignment would be:
To recreate the plant cell and animal cell on 2 pages in the art book, along with a short “journal” writing that will answer a few questions on the subject.
Where can I get an “Art Book” and what should it look like?
A 9x7 old/used book is about the smallest size for the art book. An old text book or a “bargain book” from book retailers is a cheap way to get your Art Book.
What do we need for the “Art Book”?
We use “recycled materials” for the art book. We have a whole section where we store and collect these materials. From time to time we need to collect “junk” for our art projects so don’t be alarmed if you see your child collecting scrap materials such as scraps of paper, cloth, and ribbon.
Students are shown plenty of examples from last year’s art book but they may still have questions.
It is normal to find the art book a bit unusual at first but the key is to be creative and ask questions.
Remember: The Art book is a visual representation of the assignment you are given.
Thank you for your attention and feel free to come in & see a few examples!
